I'd recommend checking out: 12 principles of animation by Alan Becker if haven't seen it yet, one of the most useful videos for learning animation if you are just starting out and honestly always a good refresher from time to time :)
Besides Alan Becker, I'd recommend Ethan Becker and Toniko Pantoja on Youtube. They have lots of informative videos about animation.
Tips:
- Keep it short when starting out, 5 to 15 seconds is more work than you might think
- while animating try to find out when to use more and when to use less frames. It will take practice to get that under control
- keep the art a bit simple you don't want to overload yourself
- do not go for 24 or 30 fps if you are drawing, animating more than 12 frames a second on your own is not worth the effort. If you use 3d software this is a different story.
- not every shot has to be fully animated, it's all about the illusion
Also check out other animators here on Newgrounds or on other platforms. You can learn a lot from observing how others animate.
Animation is a lot of work and can be quite challenging, but if you are just starting out having fun is more important and making animations is not a race, it's a marathon
I hope this helps you, have fun and for any questions you can always ask them on the Newgrounds forums!
